A new exhibition of Bernadette Parsons’ atmospheric water colours opens at the McAtamney Gallery, Geraldine, on 20 July.
A restrained palette, spare composition and an amazing way with watercolour come together in these works. The artist shows a deep connection to the New Zealand landscape and an affinity with her favourite medium.
Entitled “Haast”, the exhibition features 12 paintings, mostly painted on location. They evoke the solitude and serenity found in the mountains, bush and coast.
The South Island is one of Bernadette’s favourite places to paint. She lives in the Waikato but frequently visits the south on painting trips and to see family. She loves to paint en plein air, especially the beech forest.
Bernadette is one of New Zealand’s leading watercolourists, says Carolyn McAtamney, of McAtamney Gallery.
The exhibition opens on 20 July at the McAtamney Gallery’s new premises on the main street of Geraldine.
